HIGHWAY PLANNING
The GCLMPO area consists of an extensive network of roadway corridors, ranging from local streets serving local trips to multi-lane highways and interstates serving regional trips. This network is the primary means by which people and goods are transported through the GCLMPO area and further into the region. The network includes close to 3,000 total miles, with approximately 83% (2,457 miles) maintained by the local municipalities, with the remaining 501 miles maintained by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT).
